You’re sick and tired of the never-ending battle between you and body hair, and you’ve heard about laser hair removal but don’t want to commit until you know it’s legit. Here we answer the most frequently asked question: Is laser hair removal permanent?

Constantly dragging a razor against your body, tediously plucking individual hairs, or ripping out whole patches of stubble at a time is time-consuming, wallet-draining, and downright painful.

Your friends have told you about how great laser hair removal is, but we understand if you’re skeptical. After all, why plunge into a new treatment if the results are the same as your normal hair removal routine?

Do laser hair removal treatments mean you never have to shave, tweeze, or wax again?

Our team at Marina OB/GYN is proud to say that our laser services live up to the hype. Here we describe the process.

The basics

First, let’s cover how the technology works. Laser hair removal uses targeted intense pulsed light (IPL) to destroy hair follicles, preventing hair from coming back. The pigment in your skin absorbs the laser light, which then heats up and damages the hair follicle.

We can use laser hair removal on virtually any area of your body, including;

  • Legs
  • Bikini area
  • Belly
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Underarms
  • Back
  • Upper lip
  • Eyebrows

From start to finish, the procedure takes around 30 minutes (give or take, depending on the size of the treatment area). Despite what some people think, treatments are entirely tolerable. At most, you should only get the sensation of a rubber band lightly snapping against your skin.

Our patients love that there’s no downtime after treatment, and other than some redness and mild swelling, you should be able to get back to your normal daily routine without interruption. We may apply an antiseptic cream to soothe the area and promote healing.

What about my results?

Does permanent hair removal seem too good to be true? It doesn’t have to be.

It’s true that if you only get one laser hair removal treatment, your results likely won’t be permanent because hair grows in cycles, and our lasers can only target hairs actively growing at the time of treatment. Inactive hair follicles aren’t affected by the laser, meaning some hair may still grow back.

The amount of hair regrowth you can expect after laser hair removal also depends on other factors, including your skin and hair type and the treatment area.

So, we typically recommend getting around six treatments to see the best results. You can also come in for maintenance treatments if you need to.

The bottom line

While laser hair removal can significantly reduce hair growth, you probably need to come in for a few sessions, and get occasional touch-up treatments to maintain the results. But for many of our patients, the convenience and reduced need for regular shaving or waxing are well worth the investment in laser hair removal.

If you’re ready to get started with laser hair removal, don’t hesitate to request an appointment online or over the phone and claim your spot today at one of our offices in Marina Del Rey, Hawthorne, South Gate, or Carson, California.
